Mornington Peninsula
Mornington Peninsula, located on the south-eastern tip of Australia, is a mere hour's drive from Melbourne, Victoria's state capital. Simply referred to by locals as “The Peninsula,” it was the site of Victoria's first settlement in 1803. Each year, the picturesque Peninsula attracts many visitors, both international and local – it is, after all, easily accessible by public transport from Melbourne. Renowned for its wineries, The Peninsula also boasts an amazing number of restaurants, cafés, bars, art galleries, golf courses, parks, and, if that is not enough, there are year-round events, festivals, markets, and, of course, shopping. The Peninsula has plenty of accommodation, ranging from luxurious hotels to bed & breakfasts, and self-contained units.

Blessed with lush vegetation and diverse ecosystems, the Peninsula is also a notable destination for those who favour the outdoors. Visitors to the Peninsula will find no end of activities to indulge in, regardless of where they feel more at home – beach habitués can swim, surf, go para-sailing, rent jet skis, snorkel, dive, kite-surf, and much more; while aficionados of Mother Nature can embark on a variety of walks, hike trails both gentle and arduous, visit their choice of nature reserve, and such.

The Peninsula falls under the Local Government Area of the Mornington Peninsula Shire and can be sub-divided into five tourist regions to offer visitors diverse experiences. These sub-regions are known as, Frankston, the Northern Peninsula, the Southern Peninsula, Western Port, and the Peninsula Hinterland. In order to perpetuate the rich natural heritage of the Peninsula, the Shire is committed to a sustainable peninsula and works hand in glove with the community to ensure that tourism is not promoted at the expense of the land, the flora, and fauna.
